Letter Carving in Stone

25 - 27 August 2012

TUTOR : JOHN NEILSON : One of the leading professional letter carvers in the UK

A hands-on three-day course in carving lettering in stone, suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. We will look at lettering design (probably concentrating on lower-case letters) and carve a short inscription, but the balance of these can be adjusted to suit participants' needs. Complete beginners will be guided through the stages of producing an inscription from drawing to finished carving. Others may wish to bring a project to continue, or cover a particular area of design or carving by prior arrangement with the tutor.

All necessary tools. safety equipment and materials will be provided.

Kit list:
Strong shoes or boots (ideally with steel toecaps) are recommended.
It's important that you can see detail close to – about 9-10 inches from your eyes – so please bring appropriate glasses if you need them.
A few sheets of 'layout paper' (from art shops, usually in pads) A3 size.
1 x HB pencil, 1 x hard pencil (eg 9H).
