Carving in Stone

A hands-on
three-day course in carving lettering in stone, suitable for both
beginners and those with some experience. We will look at lettering
design (probably concentrating on lower-case letters) and carve a
short inscription, but the balance of these can be adjusted to suit
participants' needs. Complete beginners will be guided through the
stages of producing an inscription from drawing to finished carving.
Others may wish to bring a project to continue, or cover a
particular area of design or carving by prior arrangement with the
tutor.
All necessary tools.
safety equipment and materials will be provided.
Kit list:
Strong shoes or boots
(ideally with steel toecaps) are recommended.
It's important that you
can see detail close to – about 9-10 inches from your eyes – so
please bring appropriate glasses if you need them.
A few sheets of 'layout
paper' (from art shops, usually in pads) A3 size.
1 x HB pencil, 1 x hard
pencil (eg 9H).
Masking tape, rubber,
pencil sharpener or knife.To get the most from this course

lunches and tea breaks. One small piece of stone will be provided or
students can purchase more from the tutor.
